Pilot of a medical supplies demand forecasting system
Challenge
CENABAST, a public entity in charge of centralizing the purchase of medicines and medical supplies for hospitals and pharmacies, needed a solution to predict future demand based on historical consumption. Its previous system was not very transparent and was no longer available due to licensing problems. Two previous attempts with other vendors failed to deliver satisfactory results.
Process
Magnet developed a customized system in Python that analyzes large volumes of historical data from BigQuery, choosing the best forecast model for each combination of product and institution. This tool is fully transparent, allows the intervention of CENABAST analysts and adapts to their specific business rules.
Outcome
The pilot was successful, delivering accurate results that were in line with CENABAST’s internal projections. Thanks to this, the project is in the process of expanding to other areas of the organization, consolidating itself as a transversal solution.
